Ruth Smith
Ruth works within our Corporate Commercial Team as a Consultant Solicitor to support and assist the growth of Commercial and Intellectual Property work.
Her main areas of expertise are:-
- intellectual property, including assessment of intellectual property, registration and protection, exploitation including licensing and transfer, infringement issues;
- advising on a wide range of business to business contracts (including sales and supply, standard terms and conditions, confidentiality agreements, collaboration agreements, consultancy, agency and distribution agreements), terms and conditions, website agreements and documentation including privacy policies;
- law in relation to software, including software design, development and licensing;
- data protection, including advice on the new GDPR, data protection audits, privacy policies, process and general issues arising.
A member of the Law Society, Ruth graduated in 1993 and qualified in 1999. Her training contract was with a leading media law firm before working at major law firms in Bristol and Manchester. Ruth then moved in-house to a prominent software PLC, during which time she also completed a Masters in IT and Telecommunications Law, focusing on intellectual property (with particular reference to software) and data protection aspects.
In her spare time, Ruth is the Chair of Governors at her local school and likes to spend time outdoors.
