Solicitors Spring into action with Francis House Children’s Hospice

What better way to announce Francis House Children’s Hospice as our charity of the year than by taking part in their Easter Chick Appeal which unites knitters and chocolate lovers across the world to help raise much needed funds for the hospice.

Each year, thousands of supporters come together by knitting the woolly chicks which are then filled with a donated chocolate egg and then sold in schools, stores and businesses across Greater Manchester. This event has proved hugely popular and despite challenging circumstances due to lockdown, last year’s event raised a staggering £31,645.00.

As a firm, our charity of the year is very much down to our staff who put forward local charities of their choice which are then shortlisted and voted upon and this year, Francis House Children’s Hospice received the most votes.

Suzanne Wright who coordinates our charity activities at Pearson Solicitors said:

“We always like to have a charity for the year that focuses our efforts into fundraising for them. This year staff have nominated the very worthy Francis House Hospice and what better way to spring into action and launch our year of support than by getting involved in their annual Easter Chick Appeal.”

Staff were eager to get started so the appeal fell at the right time. Legal Assistants Denise Curran and Laure Leckie took the lead by putting their knitting needles together and knitted their own brood of chicks, whilst staff across our three sites in Oldham, North Manchester & Failsworth donated over a hundred chocolate eggs which were delivered to the hospice.

“We are looking forward to getting involved with the charity in any way we can and will work alongside them by getting involved in events and other fundraisers throughout the year. In addition to this, our team at Pearson are given the flexibility to get involved with events that take place during normal working hours as we recognise that donating our time as well as raising funds all helps with the running of the charity and this is demonstrated in our blog about Maggie’s Cancer Care – our charity of the year for 2021” added Suzanne.

About Francis House and how you can get involved

Francis House Children’s Hospice provides support, friendship and high levels of clinical care to the families of children and young adults with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

The hospice is a lifeline to more than 500 families from across Greater Manchester including Stockport, Oldham, Bury, Rochdale, Manchester, Salford and Trafford.

The hospice supports approximately 2,000 people at any one time with respite care, day care, homecare, sibling support, parental support, end of life care and symptom control, and emotional and bereavement support.

Children, young people and family members are welcomed into a friendly, home from home environment. The support includes physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual care from a dedicated multi-disciplinary care team. Telephone support is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

The daily running cost is £12,870 which equates to £4.7 million per annum with over 88% of income coming from charitable donations.
