There has is a buzz in Uppermill as work on the former Oldham Chronicle offices has been going on behind hoardings and recently the screens came down and the brand new offices of Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers have been revealed.

It is a return to the area for the law firm, as previously there was a Pearson office in Uppermill, Saddleworth, back in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Uppermill office will be a base for a team of up to 25 staff and will offer both personal and commercial law opportunities.

The Square is the heart of the High Street with pubs and buildings dating back to the 1820s, some even earlier, and so during the renovation the team at Pearson worked closely with local builders, Palm Developments, to preserve as much of the building as possible.

“Once the hoardings came down mid-January so many passers-by have commented on what a great job we are doing,” says Joanne Ormston, Director and Practice Manager at Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers.

“During our redevelopment we have been considerate of the Square as a conservation area and have tried to be sympathetic to the overall look of the village, as well as providing staff with a great place to work and meet clients. Uppermill is a village community and many clients are part of that community so we wanted to get it just right,” adds Joanne.

The former Oldham Chronicle offices at 92-94 High Street, Uppermill, were until recently two flats but have been transformed and sympathetically refurbished, with one entrance, a new bay window giving a more symmetrical look to the building and sandblasting to clean the stonework.

Pearson's History in Saddleworth

For generations the Pearson name has been synonymous with the local area. The law firm had village centre offices for many years until merging with other solicitors in Oldham. However, from this spring up to 25 staff from the 100 strong firm are going to be based at the new offices and are looking forward to welcoming clients old and new.

“We have several clients and staff members based in Saddleworth and it was an easy decision to move back into the area.  We want to recruit young people living locally and help them get started on their legal careers, as well as looking to recruit experienced solicitors,” explains Joanne.

“Our aim is to provide great office facilities and parking for clients, something which is very scarce in Uppermill, and with other solicitors also operating locally it’s great to see businesses working together, boosting the local economy and bringing professional services to the area.”

Pearson Solicitor will have a full legal service team based in Uppermill with nationally recognised lawyers and award winning solicitors.

“This new office is part of our growth and whilst we would have liked to have been opened a year or so ago after a few planning delays we are finally on track for a spring opening.”

The new office in Uppermill is the fifth addition to the Pearson group.  The company also offers a complete range of legal and financial services in Oldham, North Manchester, Milnrow and Failsworth.
