  • Posted on

Pearson Solicitors are proud to announce that Laura Pracy, Contentious Probate Solicitor and Head of the Inheritance and Will Disputes Department, has been accredited as a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).

What is ACTAPS?

ACTAPS is a respected independent association that sets the standard for excellence in contentious trusts and probate matters. This notable accreditation highlights Laura's dedication to providing exceptional legal services and her significant expertise in inheritance and will disputes.

Laura, who qualified as a solicitor in 2006, has built a strong reputation for her proficiency in handling complex inheritance and will disputes cases.

Her areas of specialism include:

  • Disputes as to the validity of wills
  • Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975
  • Conflicts in relation to the removal of Executors
  • Advising on intestacy rules

ACTAPS membership

Laura met the high standards set by ACTAPS through her extensive experience, ongoing professional development, and a successful history in managing complex contentious probate cases. The accreditation process included a thorough evaluation of her casework, compliance with best practices, and a demonstration of her legal expertise in contentious probate.

The ACTAPS accreditation sets Laura apart by formally recognising her as a specialist in contentious probate. This distinction not only underscores her legal expertise but also offers clients the reassurance that they are being represented by a solicitor who meets the highest standards of practice in contentious probate law. Her ability to navigate intricate legal disputes with professionalism and empathy distinguishes her from her peers.

Reflecting on her achievement, Laura Pracy commented:

"I am thrilled to have received the ACTAPS accreditation. This is a personal milestone and recognises the high standards of my work and reassures our clients that they are receiving the best possible legal representation."

Contentious Probate Cases

  • Successful Inheritance Act Claims Laura's department recently concluded a protracted five-year legal battle, securing a claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975, alongside a Section 50 Application to remove the Executor of the Estate.
  • Right to Occupy in a Will Laura represented a client, the second wife of the deceased, in securing her right to occupy the marital home, which was solely in the deceased's name. The will primarily benefited the deceased’s children from a previous marriage.
  • Undue Influence on Lifetime Transactions Laura and her team recovered over £30,000 for a client in a dispute involving undue influence on lifetime gifts and transactions.
