Make A Will In September And Help The Christie
People across the local area will have the opportunity to make or update their will for free this month as part of The Christie’s Make a Will Week, in return for a donation to the charity.
The Christie, the North West’s specialist cancer centre is encouraging people to make a will, with the support of more than 50 law firms from across the region including Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers.
During The Christie Charity’s Make a Will Week, from the 14th-18th September 2014, our solicitors will help people make or update a will for a donation instead of a fee.
According to a recent survey by Remember a Charity, an increasing number of people in the UK now have a will, with more and more people choosing to leave a gift in their will to a charity. Legacies are worth an estimated £2.2billion to charities in the UK each year. Last year alone, The Christie received nearly £5million through the generosity of donors who left a gift in their will.
Daniel Prince, Partner at Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers LLP, said: ““Pearson Solicitors are pleased to be helping out for the second year running with The Christie Make a Will Week and this is an ideal way in which our solicitors can give something back to the communities in which we all live and work and help someone else at the same time.
“With changes to the intestacy laws and inheritance rules this year, as well as the recent pension freedom news, it has never been more important for people to make a will or consider a Lasting Power of Attorney. We can give clear, practical and sensitive advice combined with the most advanced legal knowledge in this complex area of law,” he added.
Legacy and research manager at The Christie charity, Ellen Hingley said: “It’s never too early to make a will and as life changes with getting married, having children, buying a house or retiring it often needs updating. Leaving a gift in your will, however big or small, to a cause close to the heart, makes a huge difference to charities. And it’s easier than you think through The Christie charity’s Make a Will Week.”
Solicitors will offer a free, standard will writing and updating service on the understanding that supporters will make a donation and perhaps consider including a gift in their will to The Christie Charity.
