Our Social Responsibility
Here at Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers, we are acutely aware of our surroundings and the people that live and work together in the local community.
Our charitable support is often led by our staff who have causes close to their hearts.
Charities we support
Starting this financial year our chosen charity is Cancer Research UK, an amazing cause and one staff are really getting behind.
Cancer Research UK was formed 20 years ago and was previously known as the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. The aim of the charity is to fund vital research and pioneering work into how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer – with 1 in 2 of us affected it is surely a cause we can all get behind.
We already have walks, runs, Pretty Muddy challenges, knitting events, and a member of the team is making Malaysian take-away boxes and selling them, as well as a whole host of other stuff planned and in the pipeline.
Our staff are always keen to get involved in charity efforts, previously we have supported Francis House Children’s Hospice and Maggie's Oldham as our charities of the year.
As a business we are also keen supporters of Make a Will events and over the past few years have given £1,000s in support to the local hospices as part of this scheme.
Members of our team also give their time and expertise to other local businesses and charities:
- Joanne Ormston is on the board at Willow Wood Hospice,
- Carol Parker is part of Tameside Town Team promoting events and development in the town centre,
- Susan Mayall is on the board of Upturn Social Enterprise and she is also part of the Health Care Board of gtd, a not for profit organisation, and chairs their ‘Our People’s Trust’ board, which aims to engage with staff for them to feel listened to and involved in the organisation as a whole and through the employee connect council to make their voice heard by the main Healthcare Board,
- Suzanne Wright, works with the fundraising team and is on the board at Maggie’s Cancer Care,
- Richard Eastwood is part of the Oldham Business Awards steering group.
Here are just some of the local organisations we have helped or sponsored over the years:

Our commitment to the environment
We also have a serious commitment to our workplace and environment, seeking to minimise our impact on our surroundings.
The team at Pearson is committed to doing its bit to help the environment and leave a legacy for future generations. Whether that is reducing our office waste or through initiatives like our ‘Planting Roots for the Future’.
All confidential documents are shredded and recycled once scanned onto our system, which reduces our paper waste and in general we operate a paperless system.
We encourage staff to print black and white and not use colour. Frequent emails are also issued to remind staff to cut down on paper and only print whenever necessary, we continually alert staff to environmental awareness.
Our old office furniture is recycled by donating it to shelters and other charity organisations and our redundant desks and chairs have gone to furnish the offices of local charities.
Wherever possible we have low energy saving light bulbs.
Our main Oldham office is an old building, a former gentleman’s club. From the outset in redeveloping this building our Partners have been keen to sympathetically retain the features of the building, whilst ensuring the installation of up to the minute technical support systems to meet the needs of a busy practice.
The same high standards have been applied to our mill development in the North Manchester office our Milnrow and Failsworth offices and in the current redevelopment of our High Street office in Uppermill.
